ABSTRACT

Examines the interaction between the urban environment and graphic design. Two methods of shaping aesthetically pleasing spaces are described. The basis of several artificially simulated situations.

Keywords: urban environment, graphic design, perception, space.

A person's perception of a certain space serves as some kind of starting point for their emotional state.

When we are in our environment, we try to find order and harmony in it, which we perceive as a whole.

In many cities today, there is the problem of the integrity of the architectural environment and the design which fills it, and in those two elements, there is more chaos and incoherence than structure and order.

Harmony is found only in some parts of cities and megalopolises, where architectural landmarks and design ideas are obscured by huge advertising banners which in turn could also become objects emphasising the style of the urban environment.

The architectural environment and the way it is organised has a great impact on a person's mental state. Therefore, its organization is able to have a significant impact on the activities of people in the space.

Thanks to modern systems, it is now possible to design spaces taking into account not only technical and aesthetic features, but also to use the accumulated user experience to create a space that allows full interaction with people.

By analysing urban spaces, we can say that there are many opportunities to improve or adjust them.

Through the interaction of design and architecture, significant results can be achieved in the development of the urban environment.

As an example, we can take an area in Tula and put up posters and visual elements urging people to recycle and collect batteries, and we put up some collection bins, especially in summer, so that they blend in with the urban environment.

Typically, bins for batteries are filled every day, so we can conclude that people react to the graphics in the environment.

Consider the case where the aesthetic component is integrated into the architectural design. For example, when the design involves visual components in the construction.

Here, traffic patterns, logos, navigation, and more can be positioned to help not only navigate within the building, but also tell people how to interact in that environment (Figure 1 and Figure 2).

Looking into the future, it is possible to create an even more effective space that not only affects people, but also develops them and the environment in which they live.

All of this is becoming available thanks to modern technology. Wireless networks, screens projected onto transparent surfaces and many other things are becoming more accessible nowadays. More and more visual information is becoming available to the user and, thanks to this, the user experience is developing, on the basis of which environments are shaped, devices are produced, data and projects are created.

Accordingly, P. Fitts' law can be applied to space. The law says that the further away we are from the target and the smaller it is, the more time it will take to position ourselves.

The first step in this direction is to make the right decision, which is the same as the right decision, but with the right attitude to the right.

In order to understand how to correctly apply the law, let us understand the task facing the person.  Essentially, he has to go a certain way and see the goal. We can guide a person from the start point to the destination point by means of visual communication and navigation screens. Or we can construct an urban environment and apply design to it in such a way that everything would be laconic and clear, so that the beginning and the end point would be understandable to man.

Graphic design plays an important role here, as it allows us to convey the necessary information to the user, to make it understandable and easy to understand (Figure 3).

Graphic design is now becoming more than just an advertisement for a product. Graphic design allows you to create a visually comfortable environment for people, it interacts closely with architecture and shapes the appearance of the city.

In the end, we have two methods of shaping space.

This is a method of forming a visually comfortable and comfortable environment on the basis of the existing urban space.

The key role here is to insert into the urban environment a visual style, which is understandable and easy to perceive.  It should complement and enhance the existing urban environment.

There's also the approach where space is shaped at the time of development. For example, in the planning and development of a new district.

The two methods of shaping space are similar in that they both require either a holistic or a partial implementation. Accordingly they both require a holistic study of the existing space.

The conclusion can be said that the perception of the urban environment serves as a kind of criterion of the level of culture of an individual and society as a whole.

The person constantly changes the outer world according to his perception. The perception of the city environment is attended by emotions and feelings of a person how he understands and perceives the seen space.

Consequently, the perception of urban environment is formed under the influence of emotions and human perception of the environment.
