In the course of joint activities, people exchange various views, ideas, views, suggestions, knowledge and attitudes. All this can be considered as information, and the communication process itself can be represented as a process of information exchange. Introduction

Nowadays the sphere of communication is a necessary part of the social space in which every person of our society exists. [1].

In conditions of rapidly changing socio-economic, informational and cultural circumstances, the ability to communicate, cooperate and conduct a constructive dialogue is recognized as one of the most valuable qualities of a person [2].

Communicative behavior in its most general form is a set of norms, traditions and communication patterns, implemented in accordance with the communicative situation [3].

In the field of communication, both sexes face identical situations, but show their abilities in different ways. This is especially pronounced in adolescence, when boys and girls begin to realize the differences between themselves and the opposite sex. [4].

Study purpose

To analyze the communicative qualities of male and female students at ‘Gomel State Medical University’.

Materials and methods

When studying the communicative qualities of medical university students, a survey method was applied, which was conducted at ‘Gomel State Medical University’ from May to June 2021. 105 young people aged 17 to 23 took part in the survey; 56 females (or 53.33 %) and 49 males (or 46.67%).

To analyze the characteristics of communicative qualities, the ‘Diagnostics of communicative and organizational inclinations (KOS-2)’ methodology was used. The final result assessment was carried out in accordance with the proposed key to the methodology and the sum of the points scored by the respondent. i.e. from 1 to 4 points, a very low level of communicative qualities, from 5 to 8 — low, from 9 to 12 — intermediate, from 13 to 16 — high, from 17 to 20 — very high [5].

To process the results, the computer program ‘Microsoft Excel 2018’ was used, as well as the analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological literature on this topic.

It was also determined that the desire to study people and establish friendships is observed in 86% of girls, and 94% of boys.

‘Do the people around you annoy you and do you want to be alone?’ 52% of females and 31% of males answered this question. Also, 46% of girls and 63% of boys like to be constantly among people.

The smallest differences between these groups are observed in percentage terms when answering the question ‘Do you easily establish contacts with people who are older?’. For boys this indicator was 82%, which is slightly lower than for girls, which was 88%.

The processing of empirical data did not show any differences among respondents of both sexes (37%) in their preference to spend time reading books or doing something else rather than be around people.

For males, it was the desire to take part in collective interaction and it equaled up to 92%, which is significantly higher than for females just 71%.

The feeling of offense inflicted by any of friends lasts longer in females - 55%, and in males just 41%.

26% of girls and boys find it difficult to cope in a new environment. When asked about embarrassment, 61% of girls and 37% of boys noted that they feel uncomfortable when dealing with unfamiliar people.

Conclusion:

Students at ‘Gomel State Medical University’ have a fairly high level of communication skills development.

A comparative analysis of the study showed that the establishment of friendships and interaction is easier for males - 21%, which is higher than girls. Young men enjoy being around people more. Females were 14% more emotional in their reactions than boys. Girls also feel awkward when communicating with unfamiliar people and this indicator is 24%.
